Insurance and rental agreements
* Please read the rental agreements and be aware what you are signing!
* Ensure the vehicle you are renting is the same as the one described in the agreement – ensure it has the same number plate, colour etc.
* Ensure you understand the level of insurance of the vehicle you are renting.
* Ensure the level of insurance is specified in the contract along with any conditions.
* Check that there is no damage on the vehicle. Should there be damage, ensure it is documented on the contract; additionally it would be advisable to take photos of the vehicle before signing the rental contract. (Make sure the camera has date and time).
* Ensure you have the copy of the contract.
* It is normal for a rental company to ask for a deposit when making a booking and for the time that the vehicle is rented. Ensure it is specified in the contract what is left as deposit and that both parties sign the contract.
* By law, any agreement signed by one side is not a legally binding agreement! Make sure both parties sign.
* Ensure you checked the car as if you were buying it.
Thinks to check and look out for –
* These are usually what insurance doesn’t cover!
* Take the vehicle for a test drive – you cannot tell how a car drives by just looking at it – check for spare tyres and tools
* If its winter ask for chains
* If you are renting the vehicle for a long drive make sure u see a receipt of hen the oil was checked and check the level yourself if you are concerned.
* Insurance does not cover broken glass of the car – such as headlight, windscreens and windows.
* Petrol level? Make sure it mentioned on the agreement

So now that we have established that the vehicle we are renting is perfect - what we do to avoid trouble?
* Ensure you don’t leave the keys or anything expensive in the vehicle!
* Never ride or drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
* Never let anyone else drive whose name is not on the agreement.
* Ensure you respect the driving laws and speeding laws.
* Only drive the vehicles on the terrain they are made for.  Not all vehicles are off-road.
* If the vehicle requires any kind of protection or safety wear (such as helots) ask the rental company to provide them.
* Do not pick up hitchhikers.
* If at any time you feel uncomfortable about the car or your safety, please call your rental agent for help.
* Don’t stop at night when there are people on the side of the road trying to get your attention – let a local handle the situation
* In any kind of accident, should you leave the vehicle always take the keys with you
* Always park to a designated parking area and do not leave the keys with the parking attendant or reception
What should you ask for?
* A map of the area with a suggested trip plan
* A lock for your mountain bicycle
* An emergency phone number which can be reached 24/7
